Echinacea Purpurea Extract

Echinacea purpurea extract is a natural active ingredient extracted from the whole herb or root of the Asteraceae plant Echinacea (such as Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustifolia). Its core components include chicoric acid (1%-4%), polysaccharides, polyphenols, caffeic acid derivatives, and flavonoids. This brownish-yellow to brownish-green powder is produced through ethanol-water reflux extraction and vacuum concentration. It is widely used in pharmaceuticals, health supplements, cosmetics, and animal feed. 

Medical: It is used as an immunomodulator to prevent colds, shorten the duration of illness (from 7 days to 3-4 days), and treat heat-related conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections, tonsillitis, and chronic pharyngitis. It also has an adjunctive effect on viral infections such as influenza and herpes. It can be used topically to treat insect bites, eczema, abscesses, and snake bites (a traditional Indian remedy). 

Health Products and Cosmetics: echinacea purpurea extract is used in capsules and tablets to boost immunity, especially for those with weak constitutions and those prone to colds. In cosmetics, it acts as an antioxidant, inhibiting free radical damage, improving dull, aging-prone skin, and alleviating sensitive skin redness and swelling. Its polysaccharide content protects hyaluronic acid and enhances skin elasticity. Animal Feed and Veterinary Medicine: It can replace antibiotics, enhance the immune function of livestock and poultry (pigs, chickens, fish, and shrimp), improve disease resistance, and enhance meat quality. It can also treat circovirus and blue ear disease in livestock, Newcastle disease, and infectious bronchitis in poultry. In aquatic products, it can improve fish survival rates and combat infections with Streptococcus iniae and Vibrio anguillarum. 

Immune Regulation and Disease Resistance: It promotes the activation of immune cells (such as T cells, B cells, and macrophages) to enhance defense against viruses and bacteria. Clinical trials have shown that it can shorten the course of colds and reduce recurrence rates. It also has an ameliorative effect on chronic infections such as post-viral fatigue syndrome.
