What is Licorice Root Extract powder?
Licorice root extract powder is a natural active compound obtained from the dried roots and rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza inflata or Glycyrrhiza glabra by water extraction, alcohol extraction or supercritical CO₂ extraction.
Its ingredients are nothing mysterious:
• Glycyrrhizic acid—it's instantly sweet, 50 times sweeter than sucrose, yet doesn't raise blood sugar like sugar does;
• Glabridin—it only accounts for 0.1%–0.3% of the total, yet it's one of the most expensive ingredients in whitening products;
• Flavonoids, polysaccharides, and amino acids—have made this traditional Chinese medicine a natural addition to modern cosmetics.

How is licorice root used in cosmetics?
As a serum?0.2% glycyrrhizin powder alone is enough; it's slightly yellow and non-sticky.
As a cream? 1%–2%—it's smoother and can mitigate the stinging effects of niacinamide.
As a sunscreen? 0.5% licorice root extract powder chalcone A combined with titanium dioxide can minimize sunburn without causing premature blemishes.
Be careful not to overdo it: don't let the pH exceed 7, don't let the temperature exceed 65°C, and don't mix with high-concentration benzoyl peroxide. The National Medical Products Administration has approved it for use during pregnancy, so feel free to use it.
